HUNT RETTIG
I was born in El Paso, Texas in 1968. When I was old enough to step out of the house I spent a great deal of my time wandering about. This curiosity has since taken me to some of the outer corners of the world and has led me to my current perch in Aspen, Colorado. Like many artists, my work is the product of a long and continuing process of experiential learning.
I am interested in how man-made materials interact with each other and how their juxtaposition can create an aesthetic physical dissonance. It’s this easy discord that articulates the subtle tensions often expressed by things of supposed beauty. This is seen by some as a metaphor for the relationships that exist in nature: the attractive randomness of biomorphic structure; the natural, emotionless selection of life and death; and the apparent sameness that exists in things that cannot possibly be exactly the same.
